Strengthens bone density
Well-dosed physical activity strengthens bones and makes them more solid. The risk of fracture is reduced.
2. Increases muscle tone
A trained muscle is more toned, and a well-maintained musculature means you can maintain your strength so you can carry out everyday activities without any problems and maintain good posture.
3. Protects the heart
Through training, provided you are reasonable and practise regularly, the heart, which is a muscle, contracts more energetically and becomes more efficient by adapting better to the effort involved. It also sends more blood, and therefore more oxygen, to all the body's tissues. Sport is an excellent way of combating atherosclerosis.
4. Regulates blood pressure
Blood pressure increases gradually from the age of 30. Physical activity helps to regulate this pressure. For people over 50, endurance exercise is beneficial over the long term and helps to combat high blood pressure effectively.
5. Balances diabetes mellitus
Regular, moderate exercise helps to limit the onset of diabetes mellitus. In the case of overt diabetes, sport is an asset in suppressing the disease.
6. Boosts the immune system
Moderate sporting activity encourages the production of white blood cells and therefore helps to protect against infection.
7. Helps you control your weight
The energy expenditure generated by sport allows you to control your weight more effectively. Practising sport, especially endurance sport, is an excellent complement to a slimming diet, while preserving muscle mass.
8. Softens joints, tendons and ligaments
Exercise restores flexibility to the joints. Tendons and ligaments become more elastic. Certain activities can help relieve pain associated with osteoarthritis.
9. Improves lung capacity
Regular physical activity strengthens the muscles linked to the lungs and improves their efficiency. For the same amount of effort, you are out of breath less quickly and your muscles receive more oxygen.
10. Maintaining balance and reflexes
Physical activity helps maintain coordination, balance and reflexes. Sports that require "movement" (dance, tennis, archery, etc.) are the most effective. Better balance and reflexes mean fewer falls and fractures of all kinds.
11. Regulates sleep
Physical activity, even if it's not very intense, is a valuable aid to getting back to a more regular, better quality sleep.
From a psychological point of view
Is there an age limit for starting?
There is no age limit for taking up sport, as long as you choose a discipline that suits your tastes and abilities at the time. Sport is beneficial at any age. However, you should start gradually and maintain regular activity.

12. Keep your spirits up
Sport gives you a feeling of pleasure, no doubt linked to the production of endorphins, the pleasure hormones secreted during exercise, which are so lacking in depressed people. Sport reduces stress and anxiety: twenty minutes of exercise can be enough to relieve anxiety! In short, sport is good for your morale!
13. Boosts self-esteem
Sport also builds self-confidence and teaches willpower and perseverance.
14. Helps you get to know yourself better
Physical activity encourages awareness of the different parts of the body and its movements.
15. Strengthens social ties
Sport develops group spirit and teaches respect for others and the rules.
Finally, sport in a club or association helps to break down isolation, meet other people, open up the mind and 'clear' the head.

The benefits of tennis Immediate effectsAs soon as you start playing a sport, you can enjoy immediate positive effects: new encounters, a feeling of relaxation and, certainly, better sleep.
